S2E and Morningstar Italy have developed an innovative Funds Picking solution using Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Milan, Jan, 31st, 2023 – S2E|Solutions2Enterprises, business technology consultancy has recently
accomplished a project for one the major banks of Italy, commissioned by Morningstar Italy.

S2E is Morningstar Italy’s technological partner for the development of cloud-based solutions aimed to integrate and extent its Enterprise Components.

Together, they are working to offer SaaS solutions to businesses belonging mainly to the banking & insurance sector, relying on Amazon Web Services ecosystem, leading cloud computing platform for on-demand services. The scope is to provide custom solutions, based on a modern, reliable and scalable infrastructure, bringing all the advantages related to AWS public cloud, market leader.

This solution combines Morningstar Italy’s proprietary tools (Direct, ScoreCards, etc.) with S2E’s advanced Funds Picking component to facilitate and speed up the Bank’s Asset Management processes.

By using the platform, the Bank’s investment managers can periodically build model portfolios to direct new investments and rebalance existing ones.

The high quality of the data produced by Morningstar Italy is paired with a user experience specially designed by S2E for the specificities of the business user, so as to provide a practical, fast, and transparent solution that reduces the time required to carry out this critical activity while providing greater control without compromising flexibility.

In order to build the model portfolios, S2E developed algorithms that are based on market and ranking data provided by Morningstar Italy, ensuring that the composition strategies of the same are properly allocated on categories, microcategories and risk profiles, in accordance with regulatory requirements applicable to the sector and bank.

This solution is completely built on AWS Managed Services:

• Web Application Firewall for payloads security;
• Elastic Beanstalk for the application component;
• DynamoDB for non-relational database;
• CloudWatch for logging and observability;
• AWS Batch for performing massive calculations.

With this collaboration, S2E and Morningstar Italy were able to develop, in a short period of
time, a solution that met the specific needs of the customer, effectively reducing development
and maintenance costs, while ensuring high reliability and resilience that are essential for any
process banking business model.
