For this application case, Banca Progetto was honored by global artificial intelligence and automation experts from UiPath for its leadership, as the ‘UiPath AI10 Awards’ during the annual ‘AI at Work FORWARD VI’ convention held in Las Vegas, 9-12 October.
The UiPath AI10 Awards are an annual program designed to identify customers using the company’s AI-based automation platform in unique and valuable ways. Customers from around the world were invited to detail how they used UiPath to solve critical business challenges, generate ROI, achieve significant impact and accelerate innovation. The 10 winners were selected by a jury of experts for effectively articulating the business drivers, implementation and results of their UiPath use case.

Banca Progetto’s main ambition has been to maintain and expand its unique lean infrastructure, aiming to expand operations without having to proportionally increase staff. In 2017, the bank began its Robotic Process Automation (RPA) journey and today not only are team members free from mundane and repetitive tasks, but many of them are driving and managing their own business process automation, such is the success the technology has had within the organization.
The forward-looking adoption of automation proved its worth during the surge in current account openings in 2023 due to macroeconomic changes that stimulated consumer interest in the bank’s products. Despite the substantial increase in demand, the bank adapted quickly and managed to handle it without major problems.
Today, Banca Progetto operates with 30 active robots, which manage an average of 1,000 activities per day in various processes. While high volume processes can be automated with relative ease, the real distinction lies in the result of automation. The average handling time of automated tasks has been reduced by between 68% and 70%. This efficiency has led to improved customer satisfaction through faster task completion and process delivery. In addition, there has been a significant reduction in errors.
The move to UiPath was facilitated by its strength in integrability, which was a game changer. “UiPath’s ability to interface with both modern API-based systems and legacy systems was key and, working with S2E, we explored how best to leverage this technology while keeping our goals in the forefront. We then started to automate processes related to account management, financial flows, investments, and integration with our financial intermediary partners,” explains Cosimo Papagna, Digital Operations & Bank Innovation at Banca Progetto S.p.a.
